On Friday, the subjects of "crowdfunding" and advanced training possibilities for filmmakers were discussed among the festival attendees as well as during a panel at Profis Plaudern Praxis.
Discussion was also provoked by the screenings during junges dokfest – Watch and Understand Documentary Film, which were held over three days. The short film program "Kraftakt (Tour de Force)" as well as "Utopia Unlimited" were screened on Friday. The evening then saw the opening of the interfiction workshop symposium, featuring an introduction by Verena Kuni as well as the "HowTo-Swap" and bar.
In parallel, a talk between Rein Wolfs and Christian Jankowski was held at the DokfestForum in the Kunsthalle Fridericianum, offering many interesting and entertaining moments.
On Saturday, another debate in the Kunsthalle Fridericianum presented Annita Beckers, Alain Bieber, Candice Breitz, Nate Harrison and Ivo Wessel. The panel discussed the subjects of video art, the art market and the status of original and copy.
The evening was dedicated to the festival party at the DokfestLounge, which was attended by a large and cheerful crowd.
We doubt the Filmladen has ever been sold out as often as it was this year! Particularly well-visited were for example the films "Taktstürmer", "Mamnou (Forbidden)" "Rot sind die Füchse (Red are the Foxes)" and "Wadim".

What is the influence of digital media on our culture? And what about our options engage in this process and to actively take part in shaping (media) culture(s)? These are some of the general questions raised by interfiction.
Under the topic „instructable: that’s how it works!“, this year’s interfiction symposium deals with potentials and problems of community based knowledge generation. Artists, scientists, intermediaries, video- and filmmakers as well as network culture theorists and practitioners are invited to discuss their projects in a trans-disciplinary framework.
interfiction XVIII will take place from November 11 to 13 at the Tagungszentrum KulturBahnhof. Detailled information can be found at Program 2011 as well as the interfiction website www.interfiction.org.

The exhibition Monitoring has been taking place as part of the Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival since 1997 and is devoted to contemporary media art.
This year, 14 installations by artists from six countries will be presented at the Kasseler Kunstverein, the KulturBahnhof and the Stellwerk:
Jan Bode, Gair Dunlop, Ulrike Franke and Michael Loeken, Christoph Girardet, Chaja Hertog and Nir Nadler, Ryota Kuwakubo, Annika Larsson, Dennis Neuschaefer-Rube, Stefan Panhans, Anu Pennanen, Björn Perborg, Ana Esteve Reig, Rebecca Ann Tess, Rolando Vargas
A main focus of this year's exhibition lies on the analysis of film as a medium. Many of the participating artists deal with the collective, cinematographic pictorial memory, dissect the images and reassemble them. Established viewing habits are questioned and the structures and mechanisms of image generation are revealed.
All installations are nominated for the “Golden Cube” award, which awards the best media installation and is endowed with 2,500 €. It is continuously supported by the software company Micromata GmbH.
Detailled information on the exhibition can be found at Program 2011.
