This year's university portrayal presents Le Fresnoy

This year's university portrayal presents Le Fresnoy - Studio national des arts contemporains, Tourcoing, France. The program will show films recently produced at the university, presented by teachers and students of Le Fresnoy. Le Fresnoy is a post-graduate art and audiovisual research centre. Its aim is to enable young artists to produce works using professional standard equipment under the direction of established artists such as Michael Snow, Grégory Chatonsky, Jean-Luc Godard, Raoul Ruiz and others. The theoretical and practical work embraces all audiovisual languages, from electronic and traditional media (photography, cinema, video) to digital technology and other state of the art media developments. The work of production is complemented by an ambitious artistic programme. This includes various exhibitions and events which explore all aspects of creativity, in particular "Panorama", when all the works produced at Le Fresnoy are presented under the auspices of a guest curator every year in June.

Short films in the Internet – Panel discussion during the International Short Film Festival Hambur

As part of the upcoming International Short Film Festival Hamburg (June 1 - June 7, 2010), a panel discussion takes place on Friday, June 4 discussing the topic "Short films in the Internet - Where is the parlour in virtual space?". Festival director Gerhard Wissner is invited as an expert and as a project partner of the digital archiving and presentation project mediaartbase.de to discuss this and other questions around the topic together with Maike Mia Höhne (Berlinale Shorts, Berlin International Film Festival), Mathieu Boucher (The Auteurs), Catherine Colas (arte), Christian Füllgraf (Media attorney and Onlinefilm AG).

Short films in the Internet: Where is the parlour in virtual space?
By now the Internet has - in its own virtual space - expanded the reality of traditional media such as TV, DVD and cinema along with their models of redemption. Without question, a short film has easier access to the Internet than to the cinema and in this way reaches a bigger audience. But what about the financial re-flux? How and where can a diligent and respectful placement and evaluation of premium shorts take place? What models exist that highlight the individual short film in order to make a unique impression amongst the mass of content?

When? Friday, June 4, 11am
Where? Filmschule Hamburg Berlin e.V., Filmhaus Friedensallee 7, 2nd Floor

The event is for free and will be held in German and English.
