  Auf dem diesjährigem Festival feiert ein neuer Preis seine Premiere: »Der Goldene Schlüssel«. Mit diesem zeichnet das Kulturdezernat der Stadt Kassel die beste dokumentarische Nachwuchsarbeit aus. Für diesen Preis zugelassen sind Filme und Videos, deren Regisseur/innen unter 35 Jahre sind. Die Auswahlkommissionen des Festivals haben aus dem Programm 13 Arbeiten für den »Goldenen Schlüssel« nominiert, darunter Filme und Videos aus Deutschland, Finnland, der Schweiz und Polen. Neben dem materiellen Gewinn von 2.500 5 soll der dem gleichnamigen Grimmschen Märchen entlehnte »Goldene Schlüssel« zugleich helfen, Türen für die weitere filmische Karriere zu öffnen. This year the festival is happy to present for the first time its »Golden Key« award, an award for the best up-and-coming documentary on film or video. The Cultural Affairs Office of the City of Kassel donates the amount of 5 2.500 to one international documentary director not older than 35 years. After the pre-selection, thirteen works from four countries have been nominated. The »Golden Key« – whose title comes from the fairytalews by the brothers Grimm – shall also open doors for further film careers. Der goldene Schluessel Zur Winterszeit, als einmal ein tiefer Schnee lag, mußte ein armer Junge hinausgehen und Holz auf einem Schlitten holen. Wie er es nun zusammengesucht und aufgeladen hatte, wollte er, weil er so erfroren war, noch nicht nach Haus gehen, sondern erst Feuer anmachen und sich ein bißchen wärmen. Da scharrte er den Schnee weg, und wie er so den Erdboden aufräumte, fand er einen kleinen goldenen Schlüssel. Nun glaubte er wo der Schlüssel wäre, müßte auch das Schloß dazu sein, grub in die Erde und fand ein eisernes Kästchen "Wenn der Schlüssel nur paßt!« dachte er, »es sind gewiß kostbare Sachen in dem Kästchen.« Er suchte, aber es war kein Schlüsselloch da, endlich entdeckte er eins, aber so klein daß man es kaum sehen konnte. Er probierte und der Schlüssel paßte glücklich. Da drehte er einmal herum, und nun müssen wir warten bis er vollends aufgeschlossen und den Deckel aufgemacht hat, dann werden wir erfahren was für wunderbare Sachen in dem Kästchen lagen. (Brüder Grimm) The Golden Key Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm Once in the wintertime when the snow was very deep, a poor boy had to go out and fetch wood on a sled. After he had gathered it together and loaded it, he did not want to go straight home, because he was so frozen, but instead to make a fire and warm himself a little first. So he scraped the snow away, and while he was thus clearing the ground he found a small golden key. Now he believed that where there was a key, there must also be a lock, so he dug in the ground and found a little iron chest. "If only the key fits!" he thought. "Certainly there are valuable things in the chest." He looked, but there was no keyhole. Finally he found one, but so small that it could scarcely be seen. He tried the key, and fortunately it fitted. Then he turned it once, and now we must wait until he has finished unlocking it and has opened the lid. This story was added to the Grimms' collection as no. 161 (the final tale) of their second edition (1819). Their immediate source was a Hessian story told to them by family friend Marie Hassenpflug. From the second edition onward this story has occupied the last position in the collection (excluding the appendix of ten Children's Legends). By closing their collection with this enigmatic tale without an end, the Grimms seem to be saying that folktales, too, are endless. There is no final word. Aarne-Thompson type 2260.
