Vier Dokumentationen geben Einblicke in Leben, Arbeitsweisen und künstlerische Perspektiven von Wang Guangyi, Xiao Lu, Datong Dazhang und Zhao Yinou.
Die Filme von Xiang Jing, Ronja Yu, Zang Honghua und Zhao Yinou porträtieren Künstler*innen unterschiedlicher Generationen und Biografien und zeigen, wie individuelle künstlerische Haltungen unter jeweils eigenen historischen, sozialen und persönlichen Bedingungen entstanden sind. Zwischen Atelier, Alltag und öffentlichem Raum eröffnen sie Zugänge zu sehr unterschiedlichen Formen des Arbeitens – von Performance und Fotografie über konzeptuelle Praktiken bis hin zu intimen zeichnerischen Prozessen.
Das Filmprogramm ist Teil der Ausstellung “The China Moment“ im Kasseler Kunstverein, der ersten Forschungsausstellung des documenta Instituts. Als Ergänzung zur Ausstellung vertieft das Filmprogramm zentrale Fragen nach individueller Positionierung, nach künstlerischer Selbstbehauptung und nach dem Verhältnis von persönlicher Erfahrung und gesellschaftlichem Umfeld.

Four documentaries provide insights into the lives, working methods, and artistic perspectives of Wang Guangyi, Xiao Lu, Datong Dazhang, and Zhao Yinou.
The films by Xiang Jing, Ronja Yu, Zang Honghua and  Zhao Yinou portray artists from different generations and backgrounds and show how individual artistic attitudes have developed under their own historical, social, and personal circumstances. Between studio, everyday life, and public space, they open up access to very different forms of working—from performance and photography to conceptual practices and intimate drawing processes.
The program accompanies the exhibition “The China Moment” at Kasseler Kunstverein, the first research exhibition by documenta Institut Kassel. Complementing the exhibition, the film program explores central questions on individual positioning, artistic self-assertion, and the relationship between personal experience and social environment.
